The Oscars are still more than five months away, but the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is getting the show ready, announcing perhaps the most important element: the host.

Actor/animator/producer/writer/general-jack-of-all-entertainment-trades Seth MacFarlane will host the 85th Oscars, the Academy announced Monday.

Among some of MacFarlane's credits: He's the creative force behind shows like "Family Guy," "The Cleveland Show," "American Dad." He wrote the recent blockbuster film "Ted" and voiced the film's title character, and in September MacFarlane hosted "Saturday Night Live" for the first time. His monologue showed off his chops for live performance and impersonations -- qualities that can go a long way in hosting an Oscar broadcast. Check it out below:

MacFarlane's last awards show experience didn't go so well. At last month's Emmys, he walked to the wrong part of the stage to introduce the reality show host award. "Oh, the mic's over there," he then announced, before breaking into baby Stewie's voice to crack, "This is what happens when you don?t come to rehearsals."

The Oscars will air Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013 on ABC.?
